 Summary:: NIXE-CAPS (Novel Ice eXperimEnt - Cloud Aerosol and Precipitation Spectrometer) of Forschungszentrum Jülich is a set of particle measurement instruments covering a large size range from sub-micron particles to large droplets. It is a modified version of a commercial instrument to minimize the 'shattering effect'. Beside sizedistribution, also phase characteristics and refractiv index can be derived from the CAPS observations.
