Summary
The SMART-Albedometer (Spectral Modular Airborne Radiation Measurement System) covers upwelling and downwelling spectral solar irradiance and upwelling nadir radiance in the wavelength range 0.3-2.2 μm with 2-16 nm spectral resolution. The measurements of nadir radiance scattered by clouds are identical to measurements by spaceborne instruments and able to detect sub-visible cirrus. Further measurements of spectral irradiance will be applied to estimate the relevance of these optically thin clouds to the Earth's solar and terrestrial radiative energy budget.
